Renault Introduces Twingo Gordini RenaultSport

The Gordini name returns with the introduction of the Twingo Gordini Renaultsport. This latest version of Renault’s pocket rocket takes a fresh stance on the design cues long-associated with the Gordini world.

Just as before, the combination of French blue, white racing stripes and stylish, quilted leather upholstery forms an integral part of the package -but with a distinctly modern touch.

The latest Renault hot hatch will appeal to customers looking for a distinctive car with an assertive character, exuding an unmistakably French feel – a fitting tribute to everything for which the Gordini signature stands.

Twingo Gordini Renaultsport is premiered until 10 January 2010, at the Atelier Renault on the Champs-Elysées, in Paris, as part of the prestigious showroom’s ‘Christmas in Blue’ exhibition. It will go on sale across Europe from March 2010.

GORDINI ‘LOOK’ SALUTES RICH HERITAGE

Twingo Gordini Renaultsport features a gleaming Malta Blue metallic finish, plus two white racing stripes, in keeping with tradition. The front and rear bumpers are enhanced by gloss black centre sections, while the fog lamp surrounds, exterior door mirror housings and rear tailgate spoiler are all picked out in a contrasting white finish.

‘Gordini Series’ badging either side refers back to the 1960’s heyday of the Gordini Cup in France when the qualifying heats of the different race meetings were known as séries.

This exclusive exterior styling package is rounded off by 17-inch alloy wheels with a polished face and a choice of the inner rim finished in either blue or black.

The same Gordini spirit continues inside thanks to:

- Renaultsport seats with extra lateral support, with blue and black Gordini-embossed leather upholstery

- blue leather door panel inserts

- blue and black leather-covered steering wheel with two white stripes to indicate the centre point

- blue gearlever gaiter and Gordini-badged gearlever knob

- blue rev-counter with white surround

- leather-trimmed dashboard cowl

specially-tuned exhaust note under acceleration

GORDINI: RENAULT’S SPORTING HERITAGE

Amédée Gordini, who developed almost 200,000 Renault vehicles over a 20-year period, achieved some of the brand’s greatest sporting achievements.

Born in 1899, within a year of Louis Renault building his very first vehicle, Amédée Gordini was fascinated by automobiles and motor racing from a very young age. After working as a racing mechanic in his teens, Gordini developed his own sports racing and Grand Prix cars before being engaged by Renault in the mid-1950s. The Renault 8 Gordini with its bright blue paintwork and twin white stripes was one of his most successful and iconic creations, finishing 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the 1964 Tour of Corsica rally. In 1966, the 1300cc version heralded the Gordini Cup one-make race series, the blueprint for all single-make motorsport championships.

Prices will be announced nearer the time of the launch in the UK in March.

Renault Gordini To Be Revived

Renault Gordini To Be Revived in 2009

Black Renault 5 Gordini

Black Renault 5 Gordini

Rumour is rife that the new 2009 Clio and Twingo hot hatches from RenaultSport will be given the iconic and legendary Gordini name. The last car to recieve any Gordini honours was the Clio 182 which was given the same colour scheme and white stripes as with the Renault 8, 12 and 5 Gordini.

The latest news from AutoExress and Car Magazine suggest that the the hot hatches will be one of two things… either, the hot hatch versions of the standard cars sitting above the normal versions of the car, but NOT RenaultSport models will be given the Gordini name, OR that these will be a hardcore version that sits above the current RenaultSport levels – maybe in the way that the Megane R26.R has been recently. I would expect that it will be a sporty version of the Clio and Twingo rather than a Hardcore racer.

The options are expected to be similar to what BMW do with the mini and Fiat with the Abarth version of the 500, but expect to see paint, alloy, and detailing options.

Unfortunately we weren’t courted by the Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Geneva to be given the scoop, but… you probably found out here first.

Either way, it sounds interesting…

Always a Hooligan,

RenaultSport Announce the Twingo Renaultsport 133

Red RenaultSport Twingo 133 In Countryside

With a heritage of iconic cars such as the R8 Gordini, 5 GT Turbo and Clio Williams, the Renault range has always featured affordable performance cars based on mainstream production models. Twingo Renaultsport 133 is latest car to enjoy that distinction.

Twingo Renaultsport 133 is the result of a dual challenge which sought to deliver a car with genuine sporting credentials at the affordable price of £11,550. It is a Renaultsport car through and through, and features the same ingredients that have helped forge the success of its larger siblings, the Clio and Mégane Renaultsport. These include specific styling, coupled with a chassis, engine and braking system engineered for a high standard of performance that is also suited to everyday use. Twingo Renaultsport’s release stems from a desire to broaden the access to the Renaultsport experience.

Twingo Renaultsport’s compact proportions and sharp styling echo the Twingo Concept show car which was a star of the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The newcomer’s pedigree and sporty looks are highlighted by its bumpers, wider front and rear wings, and sculpted side skirts. Inside, the cabin has been tailored for focused sports driving, with Renaultsport front seats offering enhanced lateral support, plus aluminium pedal facings, leather steering wheel and rev-counter.

From launch, it will be possible to customise the car to owners’ individual tastes thanks to a range of exterior and interior Renaultsport accessories, as well as a multimedia connection point.

As suggested by its standard-fit fully disconnectable ESP, Twingo Renaultsport 133 delivers a genuinely sporting driving experience but is also suited to everyday use. Its finely balanced handling ensures it is fun to drive, while ensuring a particularly high standard of safety. As is the case with the Clio and Mégane Renaultsport, two chassis settings (standard and Cup) are available. Both benefit from wider front and rear tracks, while the main components of its powerful, durable braking system are sourced from higher segment models.

Twingo Renaultsport 133 is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.6 litre 16V engine newly developed by Renault Sport Technologies. This powerplant gives out 133hp at 6,750rpm, with 160Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. The unit’s punchy character is reinforced by a characteristic engine note which has been the focus of specific development. The four-into-one exhaust manifold has been fabricated to strike a perfect balance between acoustics, performance and low emissions.
