YozzaSport Announces Scalable Brake Upgrades for RenaultSport Megane RS and Clio RS.

YozzaSport announces the release of a three stage brake upgrade package for the RenaultSport Megane RS and Clio RS range. The three stage upgrade consists of firstly, a YozzaSport brake bell with a two piece 312mm AP Racing Disc. The second stage uses the same YozzaSport brake bell but upgrades to a custom 330mm AP Racing Disc, using a YozzaSport caliper conversion bracket. The third stage removes the Brembo 4 pot caliper and replaces it with AP Racing 4 pot caliper ensuring that the 330mm disc’s braking potential is utilised completely.

Scalable Brake Upgrades for RenaultSport Megane RS and Clio RS.

With owners of Megane RS , 225, 230, R26.R, Clio RS 197 and 200 experiencing braking issues such as warped and cracked brake discs, brake overheating, pad material deposited on the disc resulting in juddering, pad fade and other issues, YozzaSport have brought forward their new brake packages for two of the most highly acclaimed road and trackday cars of recent years.

For YozzaSport, it is important, that these upgrades are scalable, affordable and are backwards compatible with the 2003+ Megane RS as well as the Clio 197 and 197 Cup variants, and as such we have designed these  brake upgrade packages to fit behind the 17” Clio Speedline wheel that many road users have as standard, and that trackday enthusiasts prefer over the 18” standard wheels on the Megane RS.

Megane RS AP Racing 2 piece disc

Megane RS AP Racing 2 piece disc

This kit replaces the standard brake disc with a tangential cooling veined, 8 grooved, AP Racing 312mm disc and a custom YozzaSport brake bell.

The standard 312mm brake discs found on the Megane and Clio RS range are more than adequate for most road users, however, once the car is taken beyond the normal road limits onto the track or race circuit, the standard brake pads and brake discs are not as reliable due to the higher operating temperatures. Pad transfer issues, warped and distorted discs and caliper flex are some of the issues reported to us by customers.

The main purpose of the tangential vane design is to provide a cooling space between the disc braking faces, but if the vane design was a simple straight type or even a pillar design such as the standard OE brake disc, then the disc could become unstable at high temperatures.  The tangential curved vane provide superior support to the brake faces over the straight vein and pillar disc design, and lessens the risk of brake disc warping / vibration induced by high brake temperatures.

The 8 grooves in the disc ensure that any brake gases and dust is expelled from the braking surface and also create a clean braking surface on the pad to offer maximum surface contact area with the disc/pad.

Stage 2 – 330mm AP Racing Disc & YozzaSport Caliper Adapter Bracket – £829.99
Replacement Discs (Pair) – £499
Upgrade from Stage 1 – £669.99
Outright Purchase of Stage 2 – £829.99

YozzaSport 330mm AP Racing Disc and Adaption Brackets

YozzaSport 330mm AP Racing Disc and Adaption Brackets

This kit upgrades the brake discs to a 330mm x 28mm disc, whilst retaining the YozzaSport Bell from the 312mm kit as well as the OEM Brembo 4 pot caliper. With an increased disc size, there is increased stopping power, as well as reduced operating temperatures due to the design of the curved cooling veins within the brake disc. The AP racing casting is machined to specification for YozzaSport, with the grooves being machined into the disc to offer extremely high quality and high performance discs with the benefit of being a simple upgrade to our 312mm stage 1 conversion.

It is designed to fit behind a 17″ Clio Cup Racer wheel and clears the wheel shoulder with around 7mm to spare – as you can see with the picture here with a wheel weight clearing the caliper.

With YozzaSport machined brake adaption brackets included in the package price, as well as all of the brake fittings that are required to fit both the brackets and discs to the vehicle, the upgrade offers both outstanding value and performance.  The brake kit is intended to be the highest level of performance that can be achieved without making the investment in an uprated four or six piston brake caliper for the Clio and Megane RS.

Stage 3 – 4 or 6 Piston AP Racing Calipers & YozzaSport Caliper Adapter Bracket – starting from £629.99

Replacement Discs (Pair) – £499
Upgrade from Stage 1 – from £629.99
Outright Purchase of Stage 3 – from £1980

A P Racing Road and Race Calipers

A P Racing Road and Race Calipers

For the ultimate on track braking performance for the Clio 197 and Megane RS the standard Brembo monoblock caliper, is not as stiff as a conventional 2-piece caliper. There are no bolts to connect the 2 halves of the caliper together; these help to reduce the distortion of a caliper under load. This means that the standard Clio RS and Megane RS caliper distorts more under braking and cornering producing the tapered wear patterns on the brake pad which some race and trackday users are experiencing with the standard brake components.

YozzaSport offer a full brake kit for the Clio 197/200 and the Megane RS 255/230 including the R26.R and F1 variants which utilise a variety of AP Racing road and race 4 and 6 piston calipers which are fully serviceable and offer the option to use a much broader selection of road and race pads over the standard RenaultSport/Brembo caliper.

Clio 172/182 Cup Racer Dampers ::For Sale::

Clio 172/182 Cup Racer Bilstein/RenaultSport Dampers For Sale – £750 a pair inc. Delivery

The dampers are the only used part of this kit – everything else is brand new and unused.

Following on from my earlier bits for sale thread, I am listing these two pairs of Bilstein Clio Cup Racer Dampers separately.

One set is from the earlier Clio Cup 172′s (Silver) and the second set were used on the later 172 and 182 Cup Racers, however they are identical as far as I am aware apart from the colour. The silver dampers are slightly different lengths due to them being the earlier design – I can’t tell you why this is – but obviously this is not an issue, as the ride height is adjusted using the srping platforms. New the dampers alone are about £170 each, springs £60 each and the ancillarys such as the bearings, and everything else are about £250 per damper – So you are looking at about £1000 for a pair of the dampers new.

They fit the standard car and are fabulous for anything on track orientated – I actually ran them on the road for ages, but I am a little more hardcore than most – they were perfect with the vehicle that I was running, and were well rated and damped.

The Clio Cup Racers  run with “Clio Cup” Eibach Springs – but you could quite easily update/uprate these with the Eibach. In this range the Clio Cup C-400 spring is the softest rate that Eibach do, but, this range goes up in increments of 50lbs at about £65 per spring.

I am not really negociable on the price, as everything in terms of parts is brand new. If you would like to pay on Paypal – fine – but you must pay the charges.

How to Stop Brake Fade On Trackdays

How to Stop Brake Fade On Trackdays

How to stop pedal fade and pad fade on trackdays

How to stop pedal fade and pad fade on trackdays

Brakefade is in essence the brakes ceasing to work. This often happens on track after periods or extended periods of heavy use.

There are two types of brake fade, that are essentially broken down into two specific areas:

Pedal Fade

Pedal fade occurs as a result of the brake fluid boiling in the calipers.  The normal resulting symptoms are that on application of the brakes, the brake pedal to feel spongy and pedal travel will increase. This is often called the brake pedal going through the floor. It is a particularly unpleasant experience, as normally when you apply the brakes you are expecting them to pull you up, often when “the pedal goes to the floor” you are hurtling towards something that you would rather not make contact with – IE Someone else, armco or other immovable object that will need more than T-Cut and a polish out…

Braided brake lines will also help resist the spongey pedal feel. Stainless brake line information is following in the coming weeks.

If you experience pedal fade, it almost always will require the brake fluid in the system to be changed, as it will have boiled. Once brake fluid has boiled once, its ability to resit boiling again has been greatly reduced.  Brake fluid testing should be regularly done as a matter of course, and on a track car or racecar, it should be replaced regularly, or when tests show it has degraded. (Always use the highest-grade fluid possible). The standard brake fluid now-a-days is dot4.1 however, dot5.1 is now quite common and is suitable for most trackday and race applications.

Pad Fade

Pad fade is the result of friction being lost between pad and disc surface due to the friction material exceeding its maximum operating temperature.  The pedal feel remains constant (ie. the pedal remains hard) but regardless of how hard you push the brakes, the vehicle is not slowed down.

If pad fade regularly occurs or if it occurs towards the end of a session or race, an upgrade to a material with a higher operating temperature should be considered.  If the highest specification pad material is being used, one should be looking at larger rotors (discs)  or a higher quality disc with curved vanes can also aid this cooling process. Alternatively, improving cooling to the brakes through the use of brake ducting or similar.

The most significant area of problems or issues with upgraded brake discs, pads and high performance braking systems is almost always the control of the brake temperatures.  The Brake disc and brake pad temperatures can be analysed and with this information, one can measure the temperature range the brakes are operating in.  With this information different pad materials can be considered, and cooling systems can be developed and tested to analyse whether any improvement can be made to the operating temperature and reliability of the brakes.

We can offer a number of upgrades to almost any vehicle, but you should expect to pay a minimum of £60 for a sensible Trackday pads such as a Ferodo DS2500 brake pad. (More information is available by clicking the link.)

Mintex offer a number of trackday compounds such as the Mintex M1144. (Again, please follow the link for more information.)

Pagid are also an excellent if not a more expensive solution to a trackday and endurance race pad, however, they are very much worth the money in my opinion.
